June 6, 2010 was the day our trumpet vines burst out in colorful blossoms. It is a great blessing to live in La Verkin!
June 6, 1944 was the day 100,000 brave soldiers boldly crossed 100 miles of choppy seas and invaded heavily fortified French beaches held by the German army. Several thousand of them did not survive that day, and it took months of fierce fighting and heavy casualties to get freedom back for much of the world. We must always remember that freedom is not free, and give our thanks to our soldiers ... then and now.
Here's a little tribute to them . ..
General Eisenhower's radio address to 176,000 troops on the ships about to begin the D-Day invasion (about 2 minutes)
A short 3 minute video clip from that day, courtesy of the History Channel and music from "Armegeddon".
Thank you, soldiers. Let us never forget their sacrifice for all of us.
