Music and My Moods

The LDS Daily Gem today is

“Music can help you draw closer to your Heavenly Father. It can be used to educate, edify, inspire, and unite. However, music can, by its tempo, beat, intensity, and lyrics, dull your spiritual sensitivity. You cannot afford to fill your minds with unworthy music.”

I have mentioned before how I enjoy a wide variety of music.  It definitely affects my moods.  It also has gradually influenced my preparation to consistently learn from Abraham Lincoln's observation, "I have been driven many times upon my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had nowhere else to go."

I not only know firsthand of that truth, but I have gradually changed my music listening habits, not that I have changed what I like to hear, but that I choose to listen to music that helps me be more sensitive to the Spirit at all times and especially when kneeling in prayer.

If we really have nowhere else to go (and we don't), isn't it worth making a personal commitment to having the best possible experience when we go to our knees?
